Partners George Nemphos, practice group chair and managing partner in Baltimore, and Nanette Heide in New York, both of the Corporate Practice Group, wrote this article offering tips to entrepreneurs attempting to obtain capital and recognition within the fashion industry. Nemphos and Heide discuss identifying a need within the marketplace, the importance of networking within the industry, and writing a business plan. They also describe several important aspects of setting up a fashion business, including establishing management, a capital structure and intellectual property safeguards. Finally, they discuss licensing as a means for entrepreneurs to profit from their ideas.
