James J. Vincequerra focuses his practice on business reorganizations, creditors' rights and general counseling. He represents debtors, creditors' committees, individual creditors, trustees and acquirers of assets of troubled companies in formal bankruptcy proceedings and in out-of-court/workout scenarios. He is also actively involved in litigating disputes related to his client representations.
Additionally, Mr. Vincequerra has in the past worked with premier lending institutions, rating agencies and borrowers on numerous high-profile transactions in the structured finance arena, specifically in respect to substantive consolidation analysis in connection with commercial mortgage-backed securities and securitized loans. Most recently, Mr. Vincequerra has spent his time assisting a number of his clients with strategic bankruptcy asset acquisitions, in many cases dramatically increasing their geographic footprint and improving their competitive posture.
Mr. Vincequerra has represented debtors in numerous industry sectors, including retail, new media, real estate, e-commerce and telecommunications, managing all aspects of the chapter 11 process from pre-bankruptcy planning through plan negotiation and confirmation.
In addition to his business reorganization and creditors' rights work, Mr. Vincequerra regularly provides general counseling to his clients.
Mr. Vincequerra is a 1999 graduate of St. John's University School of Law, a 1995 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University and a 1991 graduate of Regis High School.

Representative Matters
- Counsel to the official committee of unsecured creditors in the Orleans Homebuilders, Inc. chapter 11 proceedings, involving one of the oldest residential builders in the Northeast.
- Special counsel to Chemtura Corporation, one of the largest publicly traded specialty chemical companies in the United States, in connection with its chapter 11 proceedings.
- Counsel to secured lender in connection with multimillion-dollar contested confirmation hearing concerning a retail shopping center in upstate New York.
- Counsel to collateral manager of CDO assets in excess of $6 billion in connection with the prosecution of claims and interests in numerous bankruptcy proceedings, workouts and restructurings, as well as related federal and state court litigation.
- Represented a financial group's liquidation trustee, winning at least tens of millions of dollars in a lawsuit which alleged a packaging and building products company was responsible for the failure of a bank which was a subsidiary and spin-off of the financial group. The company which acquired the building products company in February 2012 agreed to an $80 million settlement which will also provide an estimated $275 million in tax refunds previously paid to the IRS.
- Represented an affiliate of Sleepy's LLC in its winning bid to acquire 100% of the membership interests in Mattress Discounters Group, LLC, an 80-store mattress chain in Virginia, for $11.9 million, in addition to its previous acquisitions of the assets of Rockaway Bedding, Dial-A-Mattress and Better Bedding.
- Jim has represented creditors and other stakeholders in major bankruptcy cases, including Worldcom, KMart, Delphi, Adelphia, Winstar Communications, Inc., Global Crossing, Calpine and Lyondell.
