Margery N. Reed practices in the areas of business reorganization, bankruptcy law, corporate and commercial finance, syndicated loans, insurance insolvency and secured transactions involving securities and asset-based financing. She represents financial institutions, insurance companies and other creditors in bankruptcy cases, debt restructurings and secured transactions, including, most recently, a secured lender in a debtor-in-possession financing, an agent for a lending group, and a special servicer and master servicer for securitized mortgage loans.
Ms. Reed is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, a selective group of the nation's top bankruptcy lawyers.
The Chambers USA: Guide to America's Leading Business Lawyers lists Duane Morris as having one of the top bankruptcy practices in Pennsylvania and recommends Ms. Reed as "highly attuned" to her clients' needs, stating: "Margery Reed, viewed by competitors as 'a terrific advocate for clients,' also has an eye on insolvency law while handling a variety of matters." She also is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law.
In April 2007, Ms. Reed was profiled by Bankruptcy Law 360 as one of the "Outstanding Women," calling her a "recognized bankruptcy authority." She was named one of the "Women Leaders" in the Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly special supplement, "Women in the Profession," 2004.
As past chairperson of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference, Ms. Reed led an organization of approximately 350 bankruptcy attorneys. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, she is a member of the American Bar Association (chairperson of the ABA's Business Bankruptcy - Business Transactions Subcommittee) as well as the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia bar associations. Ms. Reed is a 1982 graduate of Villanova University School of Law and a graduate of Vassar College.

- Counsel to property and casualty insurance companies as prepetition and postpetition insurers of large companies in complex chapter 11 cases, including: Delphi Corporation, Delta Air Lines, Inc., Foamex, Inc., Solutia, Inc. and U.S.Airways, Inc.
- Counsel to an insurer with claims against Hatteras Reinsurance, Ltd., a Bermuda-based reinsurance company in proceedings under chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code.
- Counsel to an offshore insurance company in the chapter 11 bankruptcy case of a third party claims administrator.
- Counsel to the agent for a bank group providing a letter of credit facility supporting bond financing of a college in out-of-court negotiations and restructuring advice.
- Counsel to the agent for a syndicated lender group in the chapter 11 case of Leap Wireless, Inc.
- Counsel to mortgagees and assignees of leases involving multiple properties in complex retail and other commercial chapter 11 cases, including Federal Mogul, Inc., Heilig-Meyers, Inc., Kmart Corporation, Wickes Holdings, LLC and Wickes Furniture Company, Inc.
- Counsel for a prepetition and post-petition bank lender in the bankruptcy case of Delaware Ribbon Manufacturing, Inc.
- Counsel for the largest creditor in the bankruptcy case of Eagle Land Management, Inc., which owned and operated a landfill in Pennsylvania.
- Counsel to special servicer, trustee and commercial mortgage lenders in all aspects of workouts, financial restructurings and enforcement of remedies.
- Counsel to a privately-held company, advising on restructuring options and negotiating and documenting a credit facility.
- Counsel to a surety company in an out-of-court workout with a construction company which defaulted under payment and performance bonds that were written under a co-surety agreement.
- Provides strategic analysis and creates form documents for secured transactions for financial institutions and insurance companies.
- Advised insurance guaranty fund regarding issues related to insurer's insolvency.
- Advising insurance companies regarding a wide range of bankruptcy issues, including: the automatic stay, assumption/rejection of policies and related agreements, collection of premiums, rights of cancellation and other remedies, preference and other avoidance actions, post-petition insurance, collateral, proofs of claim, treatment of claims and plans of reorganization.
