Mr. Lang has more than seven years of experience in Australia and South East Asia, including on the ground experience in Australia, Laos, Myanmar and Singapore. He has significant experience in emerging markets and all forms of foreign inbound and outbound investment. Representative Matters

  • Provided legal and regulatory advice with respect to the establishment of a micro-finance business in Myanmar.
  • Advised foreign bank on a tender submission in response to RFP by the Central Bank of Myanmar.
  • Advising a Singaporean Sponsor on the development, construction, and project finance for a 225MW gas-fired power project in Myingyan, Mandalay Region of Myanmar.
  • Provided legal and regulatory advice with respect to the establishment of a credit brokering business in Myanmar.
  • Advising a bidder in negotiations with the Ministry of Electric Power and the IFC for a landmark gas fired IPP power project in Myanmar.
  • Represented a Taiwanese bank in offshore loan in Myanmar.
  • Advisory work regarding the proposed establishment of a business involved in the provision of foreign exchange services in Myanmar.
  • Advised on financial services licensing and regulatory matters, particularly with respect to the banking industry and the Myanmar Financial Institutions Law.
  • Advising a Singapore company on a thermal power project with the Ministry of Electric Power in Myanmar.
  • Advised foreign investor on cross border acquisition of two Solar Power Plants and project company in Myanmar worth in excess of $500 million USD.
  • Advised foreign investor on cross border acquisition of leading Myanmar interior design and furniture manufacturing company.
  • Advised foreign investor on loan transaction worth 50 million USD and applicable sanction issues and confirmation that related parties were not listed on the U.S. Department of the Treasury Specially Designated National and Blocked Persons List.
  • Advised as local counsel in support of a technical services initiative sponsored by the United States Trade and Development Agency to provide the MOEP personnel with information regarding standards, practices, and management systems of the U.S. and other international countries for successful implementation of IPP projects. The MOEP is supervisor and facilitator for the Myanmar power sector and is vested with all operating and management responsibility in relation to power generation, transmission and distribution.
  • Advised Vietnamese property developer on building a real estate housing apartment project in Yangon. This included undertaking an extensive due diligence on the land related to project in Myanmar. Also prepared all the project documents and assisted in collaboration between the client and the local partner to undertake a commercial development of the land.
  • Advised on the market entry and establishment and incorporation of the Representative Office for a Taiwanese bank in Yangon with the Central Bank of Myanmar and the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration ("DICA"), and provided on-going corporate secretarial work.
  • Advised on the market entry and establishment and incorporation of the Representative Office of a Taiwanese insurance company Yangon with the DICA, and provided on-going corporate secretarial work.
  • Advising on establishing a non-profit NGO in Myanmar, and also assisted the client on all relevant procedures related to its current activity in Myanmar.
  • Advised international premier airline on start-up operations in Myanmar, including branch establishment, flight operations to Myanmar, employment law, tax and leasing matters.
  • Advised foreign oil and gas company on acquisition of a non-operating participating interest in an offshore block with the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise.
  • Advised concerning an acquisition of a multi-million dollar SEA telecommunication company in Laos.
  • Advised First Myanmar Investment Co., Ltd. (FMI) on its inaugural listing on the Yangon Stock Exchange, winner of deal of the year 2016, Asia Business Law Journal.
  • Advised concerning an acquisition of a multi-million dollar telecommunication company in Myanmar.

  • Advised foreign bank on a diversified international corporation in relation to banking in Laos, on cross-border taxation issues, tax minimization, personal income tax and lending agreements.
  • Advised China-based bank with the review of the structure of loan provided to an entity in Laos, also advised to tax implications of loan, and possibility of share transfers and assisted with JV arrangement, reviewed a JV agreement and Articles of Association of the JV company.
  • Advised various alcohol beverage companies on restructuring, M&A deals in Myanmar and Laos.
  • Advised on four power plant deals including concession, project and finance documentation in Laos.
  • Advised on sale of a premier Myanmar Hotel to a foreign investor.
  • Advised concerning a $1.3 billion out of court settlement of largest native title claim in Australian history, South West Settlement. Fifth largest native title settlement in the world.
  • Advised as lead negotiator in over 20 "on country" negotiations in Western Australia between the Crown, various resource oil and gas and mining proponents and native title holders under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), Mining Act 1978 (WA), Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 (WA), and the Land Administration Act 1997 (WA). This included appearances in over 50 different mediation sessions as held by the National Native Title Tribunal.
  • Advised concerning over 70 court appearances in Western Australian and Federal Courts.
  • Advised as briefing solicitor on ten complicated securities disputes.
  • Advised on various restructuring deals in Australia and South East Asia for blue chip clients.
