Program Overview
After a year of classic partisan legislative activity, President Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 on December 17, 2007, in a dramatic White House ceremony. Prior to the signing, Congress worked through a series of compromises that left some entities victorious and others disgruntled and ready to fight again. Indeed, before the ink dried, the EPA rejected waivers from California and other states for more stringent standards using the new law as a preemptive sword and leaving initial "winners" angry and confused. In reaction, lawsuits were quickly filed and legislators regrouped for more activity in 2008.This 90-minute webcast will address the controversial new law, its impact on various industry segments and the environment, and what might be coming next in the new Congressional year. During this informative webcast, our panel of experts will discuss:
- How the law turned out and an overview of its provisions
- Who were the "winners" and "losers" in the legislation and why
- California v. EPA and other challenges
- Back to Congress: What will be fixed and what must wait until 2008
