About the Program
This is an key moment to focus on the upcoming agenda for legislation and policy initiatives concerning oil, gasoline and diesel fuel.
Record-high fuel prices are wreaking havoc in the economy and creating greater political strains in Congress. Recent hearings and floor speeches decrying the effect on consumers have evolved into various pieces of legislation to deal with the problem. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this week brought up his Consumer First Energy Act, only to be blocked by Republicans, who are touting their own legislation, the American Energy Production Act of 2008. The Reid energy bill consists of multiple pieces, including cuts in tax incentives for oil companies and provisions to deal with price-gouging and potential for market speculation and manipulation. During debate this week, Senator Arlen Specter suggested Reid separate those components into distinct bills, saying that some components may generate bipartisan agreement.
Our panel of experts will assess upcoming bills and initiatives, weigh in on whether they will help or hurt market conditions and estimate their chances of becoming law.
Attendance is limited. RSVP is required to grantstockdale@energypolicytv.com.
