The World Health Organization declared the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus a pandemic on Thursday, June 11—the first global flu epidemic in 41 years—as infections in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere climbed to nearly 30,000 cases. Consequently, employers may want to pay close attention to these developments and implement policies and procedures to protect their employees' health and well-being, while limiting the economic impact of a potential pandemic on the workplace.
