The World Health Organization declared the H1N1 virus a pandemic—the first global flu epidemic in 41 years—as infections in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere climbed to nearly 30,000 cases. Consequently, educational institutions may want to pay close attention to these developments and implement policies and procedures to protect their employees’ health and well-being, while limiting the economic impact of a potential pandemic on the workplace.
