Duane Morris Partner James Y.C. Sze to Speak at CommNexus San Diego's Annual IP Case Law Review
November 4, 2010 | San Diego
| The Austin Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney
Duane Morris partner James Y. C. Sze will be speaking at CommNexus San Diego's Annual IP Case Law Review, to be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in San Diego, California. Mr. Sze will participate in a panel discussion of the cases that were decided and that have affected the landscape of patent law this past year. Several of the cases decided this year have had a very high profile, including Wyeth v. Kappos, in which the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit held that the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) had calculated term extensions for patents incorrectly in some instances. The result is that some patents may have a longer term than the PTO had originally indicated. Many of you may have heard about the famous Bilski case decided in U.S. Supreme Court, which affected whether software and business methods are patentable. Additional cases have been decided by the CAFC since Bilski that will help to sort out some of the questions that remained after the Bilski decision. The panel will also discuss the issues of severance and transfer in multi-defendant litigations and cases related thereto. These cases and several others will help you stay current on the latest happenings in patent law.
For those who pre-register by noon on November 3, the cost to attend is $10 for a CommNexus sponsor; $20 for a nonsponsor and free for a mentor sponsor. For those who register at the door, the cost is $20 for a CommNexus sponsor; $30 for a nonsponsor and free for a mentor sponsor. Registration and networking will begin at 5:30 p.m. The event starts at 6 p.m. and concludes at 7:30 p.m.
