Duane Morris Partner Rick Lowe to Present at the Second Annual Building Information Modeling Forum
March 24, 2011 | Toronto
| The Old Mill Inn and Spa
Duane Morris partner Richard H. Lowe will serve as a keynote speaker and present on two topics at the second annual Building Information Modeling (BIM) Forum: Best Practices for Leveraging New Technologies to Increase Efficiency and Profitability in Construction, to be held on March 24-25, 2011, in Toronto, Canada.
On Thursday, March 24, Mr. Lowe will speak on the topic, "How to Avoid Disputes: Using BIM to Identify Potential Problems for Early Resolution," at 2:45 p.m. No BIM conference is complete without an understanding of recent legal developments in the industry. This presentation will focus on using BIM to identify potential legal disputes and solve them efficiently. Attendees will learn the causes of the most common complaints and how they have been solved. There will also be a commentary on what has been happening with the ConsensusDOCS BIM Addendum (and the AIA BIM Addendum) in the last couple years in the United States, namely what issues have come up, etc.
On Friday, March 25, Mr. Lowe will discuss "Canadian Contract Initiatives for BIM & IPD" at 9:20 a.m. Contracts play a major role in defining deliverables, interactions with project stakeholders and risk obligations for commercial building projects. As BIM and IPD methods of project delivery increase, traditional contract issues also change. The following will be addressed:
- What contract issues are now being faced?
- Preparing a Canadian BIM Addendum—What should it specify?
- Reasons for a hybrid version of the ConsensusDOCS BIM Addendum and American BIM contract documents
- Lessons from the American experience
- "Made for Canada" only—or leaders in BIM contract development globally?
About the Conference
BIM is more relevant when it is integrated with other business processes, and the purpose of this conference is to provide insights into valuable business uses of BIM in order to experience increased productivity gains and get the real payback of true integration.
