Duane Morris Partner Sheila Hollis to Speak at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation's Special Institute on Oil & Gas Agreements
February 23, 2011 | Houston
| Westin Oaks Hotel - Galleria
Duane Morris partner Sheila Slocum Hollis will speak at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation's (RMMLF) Special Institute on Oil & Gas Agreements: Midstream and Marketing, to be held on February 23-24, 2011, in Houston, Texas. Ms. Hollis will present on the topic, "Pitfalls and Perils of Compliance and Enforcement for Natural Gas Producers, Marketers and Other Market Participants," on Wednesday, February 23, from 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
This presentation will focus on the structure of FERC compliance and enforcement initiatives in the natural gas arena. Ms. Hollis will provide an updated view of FERC's enforcement program and the recent developments that are affecting it and the industry it is charged with overseeing. How do you stay out of a FERC enforcement dispute? What happens in a FERC investigation? When should you self-report apparent violations to the agency? Is the pattern of settlements and large penalties developed at FERC in the past few years a meaningful guideline for future enforcement activity? How strong is your compliance program and training? A brief overview of the relationship between the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and FERC also will be reviewed by the speaker, along with the implications of the recent enactment of financial reform legislation and regulation for the natural gas industry.
About the Institute
This Institute will examine various midstream issues and agreements commonly encountered by oil and gas companies following the successful completion of an oil and gas exploration project. This is the second of a series of Special Institutes sponsored by the Foundation designed to address various agreements used in the oil and gas exploration and production industry. Other RMMLF programs on oil and gas agreements include the exploration phase, sales and financings and joint operations.
