HFMA Florida Chapter Teleconference: Retroactive Application of AHCA's Undocumented Aliens Policy

February 8, 2011 | Teleconference

Duane Morris partner Joanne B. Erde will speak in a teleconference sponsored by the HFMA Florida Chapter, "AHCA to Review Medicaid Payments for Emergency Services Rendered to Undocumented Aliens," to be held on February 8, 2011.

An audio download of the teleconference is now available. Click to listen, or right-click to download.

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has changed its policy regarding payment for emergency services rendered to undocumented aliens, effective July 1, 2010. In addition, AHCA has also implemented a retroactive review of claims for emergency services rendered on or after July 1, 2005. Moreover, this retroactive review is being maintained through AHCA's Medicaid Integrity Program; a peculiar choice in light of the fact that the vast majority of the claims paid for undocumented aliens were approved by KePRO prior to payment.

There are serious questions as to the appropriateness of AHCA's new policy going forward, as well as a basis for retroactively recouping payments already made. Regardless of whether you have already received demand letters from AHCA's Medicaid Program Integrity division or not, this issue impacts your facility as long as you will or have billed Medicaid for services provided to undocumented aliens.

Please join us for this FREE, and timely teleconference, where Joanne will provide:

  • An overview and explanation of AHCA's new policy.
  • An assessment of the weaknesses in AHCA's position on this new policy both going forward and as a basis to retroactively recoup monies paid.
  • Actions steps that providers can take today to address this issue.

Who should participate: CFOs, COOs, Compliance Officers, PFS Staff, Revenue Cycle Staff, Billing Department Staff, and Reimbursement Staff.
