Duane Morris Partner Denyse Sabagh to Moderate Panel on "Taming the Wild Horses: Learning to Lasso Labor Law Issues"
September 16, 2011 | Denver
Duane Morris partner Denyse Sabagh will be moderating a panel on "Taming the Wild Horses: Learning to Lasso Labor Law Issues" at the American Immigration Lawyers Association National Fall Conference on Friday, September 16, 2011.
This interactive conference will focus on the intersection of immigration law with other law disciplines. Specifically, each panel will present a survey of the various non-immigration law related issues that are commonly implicated in immigration matters. Each workshop/panel will include a 60-minute formal presentation by a panel of leading experts. The presentation will then be followed by a 30-minute roundtable and interactive discussion during which attendees will work through a case hypothetical, share their perspectives on the problem and then interact with the panel on legal and practical questions that result from the discussion. By combining structured presentations with hands on case analysis, this program intends to advance the attendees' critical strategic thinking as well as help provide real solutions for common and not so common situations.
The panel on "Taming the Wild Horses: Learning to Lasso Labor Law Issues" will discuss the intersection and tension between immigration related compliance and labor laws. Employers can easily find themselves in dangerous situations when attempting to comply with both. The discussions will explore how to help employers overlay immigration compliance in a way that complements rather than conflicts with labor law compliance. Other topics to be considered are:
- At Will Employment—What Is It and What Does It Mean for Temporary and Permanent Visas?
- The Tension Between Immigration Versus Employment Discrimination
- DOL Whistle Blower Provisions
- Interplay between Title 7 and State Fair Employment Practice Statutes and IRCA
- Citizenship Status Discrimination Versus National Origin Discrimination
- Proper I-9 and E-verify Protocols and Compliance with Labor Laws
