Duane Morris Partners Seth Cooley and Sheila Hollis to Present at the Practising Law Institute's 2nd Annual Energy and Environmental Law Institute
March 8, 2012 | Houston
Duane Morris partners Seth Cooley and Sheila Hollis will be participating in the Practising Law Institute's 2nd Annual Energy and Environmental Law Institute with the University of Houston, March 8-9, 2012, in Houston, Texas. Ms. Hollis, who is serving as co-chair of the event, will help introduce the program, and then discuss "Higher Stakes in the Clash and Confluence of Energy and Environment." Later that day, Mr. Cooley will speak on "Fracking and Other Nontraditional Oil and Gas Developments: The New Frontier/The New Controversies."
The past two years have brought home the central importance of energy and environment to the lifeblood of domestic and international safety, prosperity and development. The Fukushima Dai-ichi disaster, major oil spills, droughts and floods that test the energy industry, coal mine accidents and other front page events make the energy/environmental law a living, breathing and demanding area of law and policy. Energy and environmental law deeply overlap and influence each other, and a critical understanding of one field requires a thorough grasp of key concepts in the other. Few energy practitioners can counsel their clients without understanding the latest important developments in environmental law, and most environmental practitioners will need to grasp the key changes in energy policy that affect overall energy policy, greenhouse gas emissions, overall air quality, siting and land use, and renewable energy and demand response mandates. This program provides a survey of the most important recent developments and actions in both the energy and environmental legal arenas. It also offers insights on pending initiatives that might affect each field. The Institute will draw on a mix of policy and law leaders, senior government officials, experienced outside counsel and upper-level in-house counsel to provide a broad overview and practical advice on how developing trends in both energy and environmental law will affect important legal issues and projects facing practitioners today.
