Duane Morris Partner Neville Bilimoria to Discuss "Managing Risk for the Agency: Current Legal Issues for CILAS: A New Era of Increased Enforcement of DD Facilities"
May 4, 2012 | Orlando, Florida
| Rosen Plaza Hotel
Duane Morris partner Neville Bilimoria will be discussing "Managing Risk for the Agency: Current Legal Issues for CILAS: A New Era of Increased Enforcement of DD Facilities" at the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association's (DDNA) 20th Anniversary Annual Education Conference on Friday, May 4, 2012.
The 2012 Conference will begin with the PreConference on May 4, with the Conference held May 5-7. Aimed at health care professionals working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities, this year's conference will present cutting edge information, including the most up-to-date practice issues and research regarding the specialty of developmental disabilities nursing. The DDNA Annual Education Conference provides a forum for networking and the sharing of information in order to improve nursing practice in the developmental disabilities field. Leaders and experts in developmental disabilities come together to engender consensus that improves the health and lives of persons with developmental disabilities.
Recently, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Human Services (DHS) has stepped up enforcement (dramatically) against CILA homes and developmental disabilities nurses, alleging instances of neglect on a system-wide basis, often times with disastrous results for the nurse and the agency involved. Recent efforts to combat OIG in this area have been hard fought, and are continuing. CILA providers and nurses alike should hear about this ongoing battle, and learn how to combat allegations of neglect of residents of CILA homes. In addition, CMS Never Events are an important topic that could materially affect reimbursement for CILA operators and the DD nursing industry.
