Duane Morris partner Lauren DeBruicker will be a speaker on the subject of "Lawyers with Disabilities: Personal Strategies for Success" at the American Bar Association's (ABA) 3rd National Conference on Employment of Lawyers with Disabilities on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
The goals of the Conference are to eliminate bias against people with disabilities and to advance the full and equal participation of lawyers with disabilities in the legal profession. Experts in the field will advocate for making disability an essential component of diversity plans. Through seven panel discussions, attendees will: learn about the laws and regulations that protect persons with disabilities in the workplace; acquire from law firm partners, corporate counsels, and government agency lawyers a list of best practices for hiring, retaining, and promoting lawyers with disabilities; and hear firsthand from lawyers with disabilities about the barriers they encountered in entering the profession and the strategies they employed to have a meaningful and successful career.
"Lawyers with Disabilities: Personal Strategies for Success" features lawyers with disabilities in nonprofit, academic, government, and private firm work who share their personal career experiences and offer strategies to both law students and lawyers with disabilities for building meaningful and successful careers. Panelists will discusses the duty of employers under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's implementing regulations to provide reasonable accommodations for lawyers with disabilities, as well as what medical exams and inquiries are permissible under the ADA, and offers advice for engaging in productive interactive processes with employers regarding accommodations.
