Duane Morris Associate Natalie Hrubos to Discuss "Both Sides Now: Employee & Employer Perspectives on Transgender Workplace Law"
June 1, 2012 | Philadelphia
| Philadelphia Convention Center
Duane Morris associate Natalie Hrubos will be providing the employer perspectives in a panel discussion titled "Both Sides Now: Employee & Employer Perspectives on Transgender Workplace Law" on Friday, June 1, 2012, at the 11th Annual Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference (PTHC).
This panel presentation will begin with a discussion of emerging legal protections for transgender employees, including legislative and case law developments in 2011 and 2012. Panelists will use a series of hypotheticals to examine both the legal obstacles that transgender employees face in the workplace and the top challenges for employers seeking to create a gender affirming work environment. This presentation will serve as a practical guide on developing and implementing trans-friendly workplace policies and practices, including those relating to confidentiality, documentation, and gender-appropriate restroom access, to name a few. The panel will share insights on how employees and management can work together to achieve trans competency and inclusion at their organizations and to address employee relations issues effectively. Finally, members of the panel will discuss legal options available to transgender employees facing workplace discrimination or hostility based on gender identity or expression.
PTHC offers a space for transgender people and their allies, families and providers to come together to re-envision what health means for transgender people. The focus of this unique conference is promoting transgender health and wellness in mind, body, spirit, and community. PTHC recognizes the connections among all aspects of well-being, including health, safety, education, employment, housing, and social support, and strives to ensure that the conference addresses the diverse needs of all transgender communities.
