June 20, 2012 | Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| Calgary Marriott Downtown
Duane Morris partner Jonathan Armstrong will be part of a panel discussion on the subject of "Managing the Multijurisdictional Requirements of Anti-Corruption Legislation: How to Successfully Comply with the FCPA, CFPOA and the UK Bribery Act" for The Canadian Institute's Anti-Corruption & Bribery Compliance conference on Wednesday, May 20, 2012.
Following years of pressure by international groups to increase enforcement efforts, anti-corruption enforcement in Canada has exploded over the past year. International anti-corruption efforts are also on the rise, with new legislation and regulations posing additional compliance challenges. The strict enforcement environment and risks posed by corrupt practices are forcing Canadian companies to reassess and strengthen their anti-corruption programs. Lapses in controls over foreign agents and representatives could result in steep fines, interruption of business, damage to reputation, or even personal liability or jail for officers and directors. The Canadian Institute's Anti-Corruption and Bribery Conference will provide the best practices required to address your most pressing global compliance concerns.
This panel will look closely at the FCPA, CFPOA and UK Bribery Acts, including their geographical reach; how the jurisdiction is determined; what happens in case of conflict between the acts; and how the risk of multiple convictions for the same offense is addressed. In addition, speakers will analyze the similarities and differences between the three pieces of legislation and explore how to ensure compliance with all three acts. Other topics will include the industries most targeted for enforcement, guidelines on preventing bribery, and how to resolve conflicts with other pieces of legislation.
