Duane Morris Partner Jonathan Segal to Present at SHRM's 2012 Legal Update Conference
November 2, 2012 | Scranton, Pa.
| Hilton Scranton Conference Center
Duane Morris partner Jonathan Segal will present on an array of topics at the Northeast PA Society of Human Resource Management's (NEPA SHRM) 2012 Legal Update Conference on Friday, November 2, 2012.
This day-long seminar includes four sessions: "Tough Love," Legislative Update," "Social Media" and "Wage and Hour Minefields." The first session, "Tough Love" discusses how HR can increase its effectiveness in dealing with the C-Suite, especially when HR is often left out of important discussions. Following a break, Mr. Segal will provide a "Legislative Update," which takes a look at the more-salient employment bills pending throughout both Pennsylvania and the nation. He will provide recommendations for effective grassroots advocacy with particular attention on what to do—and not to do—when meeting with a representative.
The afternoon sessions begin with "Wage and Hour Minefields," which focuses on some of the most commonly litigated FLSA and state wage and hour claims involving non-exempt employees, which have resulted in multimillion-dollar settlements and judgments. Finally, the day concludes with a discussion of "Social Media," a hot topic with the recent discussion over employers requesting applicants for passwords to access their private social media pages. This session focuses on the intersection between social media and employment relationships, and how employers can maximize the business benefits while mitigating the legal risks.
