Duane Morris Partner Frank DiGiacomo to Speak on "Regulatory Structure and Impacts of New Jersey's New Legislation"

February 4, 2013 | Atlantic City | Resorts Casino Hotel

Frank DiGiacomo Duane Morris partner Frank DiGiacomo will speak on "Regulatory Structure and Impacts of New Jersey's New Legislation" and "Historical Development of the Federal Regulatory Structure for Gambling: What Needs to Change to Make Internet Gambling Truly Work?" at Law Seminars International's (LSI) Online Gambling Conference on Monday, February 4, 2013.

Mr. DiGiacomo, the program's co-chair, will be opening the two-day conference that invites attorneys and business executives involved in the gaming and online entertainment industry. Attorneys who attend are also eligible to receive CLE credits.

In December 2011, the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued an opinion concerning the Wire Act, which is the principal federal statute regarding Internet gambling. The opinion reversed the DOJ's prior long-standing view that the Wire Act prohibited all forms of online gambling. Instead, the opinion concluded that the Wire Act's prohibitions relate to sports betting only. The result was that the DOJ's opinion unleashed a firestorm of state and federal legislative activity. Initiatives were introduced in numerous states, including Delaware and New Jersey, designed to open the door to online state sponsored lotteries, and to state-authorized intrastate non-sports Internet gambling, including online intrastate poker. This conference will focus on the latest issues affecting not only the legal regulatory landscape, but also existing legalized gambling and the operational issues that the implementation of online gambling may present.
