Duane Morris partner Neville M. Bilimoria will speak at the Illinois Health Care Association's seminar "Yet More Updates to HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules." His presentation is titled "Avoiding Liability in the Age of Electronic Health Records." The program will be held three times: Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Northfield Inn in Springfield, Illinois; Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Keller Convention Center in Effingham, Illinois; and Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Hilton in Lisle, Illinois.
About the Program
Healthcare providers today face challenges and exposure due to non-compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. With the HITECH Act Final Rule (amendments to HIPAA) published January 17, 2013, and with effective dates of Mar. 26, 2013 and Sept. 23, 2013, many facilities are still trying to sort through HIPAA compliance efforts, whether it be compliance with new business associate obligations or breach notification rules. Compliance can be difficult to do given the complex, myriad of regulations (and guidance) that are being passed by the Department of Health and Human Services. But fear not, this session will arm you with the tools you need to comply with HIPAA in the face of new regulations that are popping up again and again.
At the conclusion of this seminar, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the evolution of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and about the brand new HITECH Act January 17, 2013 Final Rule regulatory mandates to help you avoid liability and maintain HIPAA compliance
- Discuss important compliance updates and recent real-life enforcement actions against healthcare providers for violations of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules
- Implement steps to bolster your HIPAA Privacy and Security compliance in light of the HITECH Act Final Rule, including real, practical lessons on how to respond to everyday requests for records and subpoenas under HIPAA
