Duane Morris Becomes First U.S Law Firm to Open in Myanmar

Krishna RamachandraJohn SorokoDuane Morris continued its international expansion by becoming the first U.S. law firm to launch an office in Myanmar. The firm's 26th location will be in the city of Yangon and comes through Duane Morris & Selvam, its joint venture with Singapore-based law firm Selvam.

The Myanmar office will include 12 lawyers, including office managing director Krishna Ramachandra and a lawyer from the firm's Singapore site. Philadelphia-based Duane Morris said it will handle tax, licensing, regulatory, market entry, reporting requirements and U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and UK Bribery Act issues.

Duane Morris has focused on growing in Southeast Asia, opening two offices in Vietnam—Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City— in 2007 and entered into the Singapore joint venture in 2010.
