Press Release
Duane Morris Special Counsel Aaron Greenfield Appointed to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Lawyers Committee
May 12, 2011
BALTIMORE and WASHINGTON, D.C., May 12, 2011—Duane Morris LLP's Aaron J. Greenfield has been selected to join the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Lawyers Committee. The committee aims to broaden the relationship between the museum and the legal communities of the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as to foster study of the Holocaust's legal ramifications through ongoing professional development initiatives for judges, lawyers, law students and professors.
In addition to being special counsel in the Corporate Practice Group of law firm Duane Morris LLP, Greenfield serves clients as a managing director of public affairs firm Duane Morris Government Affairs LLC in Baltimore.
The appointment comes on the heels of Greenfield's successful representation of an international coalition of Holocaust survivors and family members in their attempts to hold French railway company Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF) accountable for its role in the Holocaust. SNCF transported more than 75,000 individuals to death camps during World War II. Greenfield's efforts contributed to legislation, recently passed by the Maryland General Assembly, that requires companies bidding on commuter rail contracts to disclose whether they transported victims to Nazi concentration camps.
"Aaron has done remarkable work on behalf of Holocaust survivors and their families in Maryland," said George Nemphos, chair of Duane Morris' Baltimore office and of the firm's Corporate Practice Group. "This new role honors his work, and draws on his great reservoir of knowledge and sensitivity on Holocaust-related issues."
As a member of the Washington Lawyers Committee, Greenfield will attend the museum's upcoming 2011 National Tribute Dinner. The event will take place on May 16 at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington, D.C., and will honor Elie Wiesel, the founding chairman of the museum. Also, distinguished Holocaust scholar Dr. Deborah Lipstadt, author of The Eichmann Trial, is a featured presenter.
Greenfield practices in the areas of corporate law and government relations, representing public and private companies. In his capacity as managing director at Duane Morris Government Affairs LLC, he represents corporate clients in varying industry sectors before local, state and federal governments. Greenfield has previously held several high-level positions in local government. He is a board member of the Baltimore Jewish Council and a member of Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore. Greenfield is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and the University of Maryland College Park.
