Attorney Jamie Dyce Wins Duane Morris Pro Bono Award

Jamie DyceNEW YORK, November 2, 2011— Jamie Dyce of Duane Morris' New York office accepted the firm's fifth annual Duane Morris Pro Bono Award on October 29 in Philadelphia. Dyce, a Wealth Planning associate, has been practicing with Duane Morris since 2009 and lives in Manhattan.

The firm's pro bono award, which each year recognizes the outstanding service of one of Duane Morris' 700 lawyers from its offices across the United States and throughout the world, honors the attorney who has best exemplified the strong Duane Morris pro bono culture.

Dyce has volunteered extensively through the New York City Bar Association Justice Center's Elder Law and Cancer Advocacy Projects. Her work includes estate planning for low-income, terminally ill cancer patients and elderly individuals. Her compassion in assisting clients transcends estate planning; she often meets with clients in their homes or hospital rooms to ensure they are well-represented. Last year, Dyce was recognized by the Justice Center for her significant work through the Elder Law and Cancer Advocacy Projects. Her recent pro bono efforts also include handling a complex estate matter for the low-income family of a young New York attorney who died tragically last year.

A letter from the nephew of a Cancer Advocacy Project client demonstrates why Dyce is this year's Pro Bono Award recipient: "I think [my aunt] was able to go peacefully largely because you were able to work with her to complete her legal documents. . . . Thanks again for all of your help. . . .You have been a godsend for all of us, but especially [her]."

As part of the Duane Morris Pro Bono Award, Dyce selected a local organization to which the firm will donate $5,000. She chose the Pajama Program, a nonprofit organization that promotes literacy among children in need and provides new pajamas and new books to children who are waiting to be adopted. She serves on the board of directors for the Pajama Program and organizes a team of Duane Morris volunteers to participate in monthly story-hour sessions for the children in the program.

Dyce practices in the area of wealth planning, with her work including estate and postmortem planning for high net worth individuals and families; the administration of estates and trusts; and the preparation and negotiation of marital agreements. She is experienced in estate litigation and has served as guardian ad litem in probate proceedings. Dyce has also litigated and settled complex matrimonial matters, and she has represented clients in contested and uncontested divorce proceedings.

Dyce is a member of both the American Bar Association's Real Property and Probate Law Section and the New York State Bar Association's Trusts and Estates Section. She is a 2005 cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law and a 1999 cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton. Dyce earned her Certificat des Etudes Internationales from the Universitée de Paris-Sorbonne in 1999. Dyce is pursuing an Advanced Professional Certificate in Taxation and Estate Planning from New York University School of Law, which she expects to complete in 2012.
