Duane Morris Partner Brian Kelly to Speak at PLI's Taking and Defending Depositions Seminar
SAN FRANCISCO, May 3, 2011—Duane Morris partner Brian Kelly, vice-chair of the Insurance division of the firm's Trial Practice Group, will speak as part of the Practising Law Institute's (PLI) "Taking and Defending Depositions 2011" seminar. The event will take place on June 8 at PLI's California Center, located at 685 Market Street in San Francisco. It will also be available via webcast. Joined by Arthur Friedman of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, Kelly will speak at the "Expert Depositions" session at 1:45 p.m.
The program will provide a comprehensive overview of the deposition process, starting with general strategic principles and moving through the use of deposition testimony at trial. It will feature demonstrations to illustrate deposition best practices, provide tips for each stage of the process, and show the tactical and strategic considerations behind the techniques employed.
Kelly represents clients in commercial, environmental and insurance matters. His practice involves counseling clients in all stages of risk, and he is frequently retained before a lawsuit is filed in an effort to manage risk. Kelly has extensive experience representing clients in arbitrations, mediations and all other types of alternative dispute resolution. He advises and represents clients in a wide range of issues and lawsuits from contractual issues and insurance coverage to toxic torts and environmental claims.
For the last 25 years, Kelly has regularly been involved as lead trial and appellate counsel in many complex insurance coverage cases in state and federal courts in California and throughout the United States. He also represents product manufacturers, industry groups and their associations in administrative, state and federal court proceedings relating to environmental impacts, product use restrictions, and compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Kelly is a graduate of Loyola University School of Law and of California State University, Chico.
