Duane Morris Partner Kevin F. Berry to Receive Roland Kandle Award for Outstanding Volunteerism

Kevin BerryPHILADELPHIA, October 13, 2011—Duane Morris partner Kevin F. Berry has been selected by the Philadelphia-based Burn Foundation as the recipient of its Roland Kandle Award for Outstanding Volunteerism. The award will be presented on October 14, 2011, at the foundation's 38th Annual Gala and Auction, to be held at the Union League of Philadelphia.

Berry has served on the board of directors of the Burn Foundation since 1989, following the death of his friend and associate, Bill Zurzolo. Zurzolo was involved in an airplane accident and suffered burns over the majority of his body, and Berry was with him during his three-week hospital stay.

Berry has been a strong proponent of educating the community about fire and burn safety. He has been a leader in the Burn Foundation's commitment to support burn survivors through camp programs, providing pressure garments when insurance will not pay and developing a mentorship program to offer encouragement and advice to victims. Berry also appeared in the Burn Foundation’s Survivor DVD, "Beyond the Scars."

Berry has served the foundation in various leadership capacities. He was vice chairman from 2003–2004 and chairman from 2004–2006. Berry now again has served as vice chairman since 2010. He has been a longtime Executive Committee member.

Berry focuses his practice at Duane Morris in the area of commercial litigation. He represents financial institutions, including insurance and reinsurance companies and banks, and corporations in commercial matters. Berry has particular experience in turnaround and workout work for troubled financial services companies. He has tried more than 150 civil jury trials to verdict.

Berry is a 1979 cum laude graduate of Suffolk University Law School, where he was case comment editor of the Suffolk University Law Review, and a graduate of Columbia University.
