Pat McPhersonWASHINGTON, July 8, 2014—Duane Morris LLP has appointed Patrick D. McPherson managing partner of its Washington, D.C. office. McPherson succeeds partner Douglas Woloshin, who served in that role since 2001.

McPherson represents clients in the acquisition, enforcement and protection of all aspects of their intellectual property rights. He is a seasoned intellectual property litigator and has represented clients in numerous federal district courts throughout the United States and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. McPherson also heads up the firm's Post Grant Review practice before the Patent Trademark and Appeal Board. He represents U.S. and foreign clients in the acquisition of patent rights in diverse technologies, such as telecommunications, wireless communications, computer software, ink jet recording paper, medical devices and electronics, and assists clients in establishing competitive patent review programs. McPherson also provides advice regarding potential patent infringement issues. Having achieved the rank of lieutenant in his U.S. Navy service, which included service on the Navy's nuclear submarines, he has practical engineering experience that he puts to use with his intellectual property clients.

McPherson also counsels clients in the development, maintenance and protection of brand identifiers, including conducting registrability investigations, prosecuting trademark applications, initiating inter partes proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, reviewing marketing materials and coordinating international protection programs. He also assists clients in identifying, registering and protecting their copyrighted works in diverse areas, including computer software, written and other artistic works and website design. McPherson has extensive experience in the transfer and licensing of copyrighted works.

Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, McPherson is admitted to practice in Maryland and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is a 1995 graduate of the Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America and a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.

Woloshin will continue to concentrate his practice in the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, corporate finance and project finance, while serving on the firm's Partners Board. He counsels corporations, individuals, partnerships and nonprofit entities on a broad range of business matters, including business formations, reorganizations, and mergers and acquisitions. Woloshin has accumulated experience in cross-border transactions, venture capital/private equity financing, distressed asset transactions and international joint venture formation. In addition, he played a significant role in the establishment of the firm's offices in Singapore and Vietnam, having visited Asia numerous times. He is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in Singapore.
