Duane Morris South Florida Offices Add Intellectual Property Partner Nicholas A. Zachariades

BOCA RATON, March 21, 2011—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Nicholas A. Zachariades, Ph.D., has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group as a partner in its Boca Raton office. His arrival further bolsters in South Florida Duane Morris’ highly ranked and growing national IP practice. National publications, including Intellectual Property Today, IP Law & Business, IP Law Bulletin and IP Law360 have all ranked the firm among the leading law firms handling patents, trademarks and related IP litigation. Dr. Zachariades joins Duane Morris from Novak Druce + Quigg.

Dr. Zachariades focuses his practice in patent-opinion counseling and patent procurement in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. He represents major universities as well as large- and medium-sized U.S. and foreign corporations in a variety of matters, including patent prosecution, opinions and patentability assessments in cutting-edge biomedical technologies. Dr. Zachariades focused his doctoral research on cellular immune recognition of pathogens and the mechanisms involved in stimulating immune responses.

Dr. Zachariades has published extensively on human cellular immunology and molecular genetics. He has taught immunology and virology and has presented at both national and international scientific conferences. Dr. Zachariades has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Cancer Research Institute and the Poliomyelitis Foundation. He was awarded a major impact study grant for his work on HIV and neonatal vaccine responses.

Dr. Zachariades is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as in Florida and the District of Columbia. He is the co-chair for the Southeast Chapter of BioFlorida and is a member of the organizing committee for the Eastern Region Meeting of the Association of University Technology Managers. He is fluent in Greek.

Dr. Zachariades earned his J.D. in 2003 from New England School of Law and his Ph.D. in Cellular Immunology in 1990 from Emory University. He earned his B.A. in 1983 in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Kansas.
