Press Release
Duane Morris to Host U.K. Bribery Act and U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Roundtable Event
PHILADELPHIA, March 4, 2011—Law firm Duane Morris LLP announced today that it will host a roundtable event addressing the U.K. Bribery Act 2010 and the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the firm’s Philadelphia office on March 23, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. The event will address recent changes in U.K. law that have created strict regulations on corporate hospitality and are likely to have a significant impact on business practices.
The discussion, to be led by Duane Morris partner Jonathan P. Armstrong of the firm’s London office and Louis R. Pichini of Deloitte Financial Advisory LLP, will provide practical tips for U.S. companies conducting business in Europe and domestically. The roundtable event will explore U.K. and U.S. compliance rules, and outline proactive steps companies should take to ensure transparency and avoid stiff penalties, including jail time.
“It is crucial that businesses understand how to operate effectively in this new environment,” said Armstrong. “The potential legal implications are significant, and from an operations perspective, the U.K. Bribery Act will present challenges that merit the time and attention of management from an early stage.”
Armstrong has written extensively on U.K. bribery laws and regularly advises multinational clients in the United Kingdom and United States on compliance, transparency and governance.
The event, sponsored by Duane Morris and Deloitte, is being coordinated by the Greater Philadelphia chapter of the British American Business Council (BABC). It is open to BABC members for $65 and is open to nonmembers for $85. Pennsylvania CLE credits are also available for those attending the program.
