Duane Morris Attorney Michael Reitzell Receives Firm's Pro Bono Award; Donates to Tahoe Women's Services
LAKE TAHOE, June 3, 2011—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that special counsel Michael L. Reitzell of the firm's San Francisco and Lake Tahoe offices is the recipient of the firm's Pro Bono Award. Reitzell selected nonprofit Tahoe Women's Services (now known as Tahoe Safe Alliance)—an organization based in Lake Tahoe that helps abused women—to receive a $5,000 donation provided by Duane Morris. He will present the award to Karen Carey, executive director of Tahoe Women's Services, on June 3, at 11:00 a.m., in the firm's Lake Tahoe office.
The Duane Morris Pro Bono Award recognizes commitment to pro bono service and honors those who work to achieve equal access to justice. The firm's Pro Bono Committee chose Reitzell because of his dedication to representing clients in two Nevada Supreme Court matters. In one case, he spent significant time helping a father in his attempts to regain custody of his seven-year-old daughter. In the second matter, he handled an appeal of a civil action filed by his client arising out of a sexual assault. That matter is currently awaiting ruling from the state Supreme Court. Nevada Supreme Court Justice Ron Parraguirre and the settlement judge recognized Reitzell's work on the custody matter as being of the "highest quality."
Reitzell practices in the areas of products liability, complex torts, and business litigation. He focuses his practice on defending manufacturers, retail businesses, ski areas and resort operators in products liability and premises matters, concentrating on catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Reitzell practices at both the trial and appellate levels, and has defended clients in several business litigation matters involving claims of unfair competition, false advertising and fraud. In addition to his significant litigation experience, he works closely with clients on risk management and business operations issues to prevent litigation.
Reitzell is a 2001 graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Law, and a 1997 graduate of the University of Southern California with a B.A. in broadcast journalism.
