Duane Morris' Washington, D.C. Office Welcomes Patent Attorney Donald McPhail

WASHINGTON, July 11, 2006 - Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of Donald R. McPhail, formerly of the patent law firm Fleshner & Kim LLP, in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Don, who holds a master's degree in synthetic organic chemistry, joins the firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. The Duane Morris IP Practice, which numbers more than 50 patent and trademark attorneys, has grown by nearly 50 percent in the last three years, giving the firm one of the largest groups of patent and trademark attorneys practicing in a general practice law firm. Don joins a team of eight IP attorneys in the Washington, D.C., office.
With practical experience in a wide variety of technical fields, Don represents a number of diverse clients in matters of patent infringement, validity and enforcement before the federal courts of the United States. In this capacity, Don has served as lead counsel in the U.S. district courts for Minnesota, Delaware and East Texas in actions involving a broad range of technical areas, including generic pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing processes, semiconductor design and liquid crystal display devices. A former examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Don has extensive patent preparation and prosecution experience, particularly in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and chemistry. He also provides counsel on issues of IP strategy, licensing, research contracts, consulting agreements and patent portfolio evaluation. He has authored articles on a variety of patent issues for Patent World, George Mason University Law Review and American University Law Review. A member of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar Association, Don is also active in the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
After graduating with a B.S. in chemistry with distinction from Duke University in 1988, Don earned his M.S. from Duke University in 1991 and his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 1994. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
