Duane Morris Names Susan Shallcross New Marketing Director
August 22, 2008
PHILADELPHIA, August 22, 2008 - Duane Morris LLP today announced the appointment of Susan Shallcross to the newly created position of Marketing Director. Reporting to Chief Marketing Officer Edward Schechter, Shallcross will oversee all marketing operations of the 650-lawyer international law firm, making her a key member of the firm's management team.
Duane Morris has a distinguished and nationally honored marketing department, having been named the "best marketed law firm in the United States" by Incisive Media's Marketing the Law Firm newsletter. Separately, Schechter was recognized as "Marketing Director of the Year" in the 2007 Hubbard One Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards.
"Susan's background and marketing management experience at Arnold & Porter will add another strategic perspective to an already strong team," Schechter said. "We are all excited that she is joining us."
With Shallcross in place overseeing the department's day-to-day marketing operations, Schechter will supervise that work while focusing on the firm's business development and strategic planning in close collaboration with Duane Morris Chairman John Soroko and Chief Operating Officer Charles O'Donnell.
Shallcross has more than 20 years of professional services marketing and communications experience. Prior to joining Duane Morris, she served for almost 12 years as marketing and communications director at Arnold & Porter LLP in Washington, D.C. Before joining Arnold & Porter, she was a communications manager for political consulting firm Cunningham Harris & Associates and a government/public affairs manager for Albers & Company, a corporate lobbying firm, where she also oversaw all firm marketing. Shallcross previously served as a reservist media relations manager for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and as a communications and press aide for former Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) in his first presidential bid in 1988.
Shallcross was director of communications for the Virginia Association of Female Executives. She also served as vice chair of the Human Services Council for the Fairfax County, Va., board of supervisors.
She is a member of the Legal and American Marketing Associations and the Public Relations Society of America. Shallcross earned an M.B.A., with concentrations in strategy and management, from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Florida.
