Duane Morris Partner Albert Bates, Jr., Named Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators
PITTSBURGH, May 7, 2009 - Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Albert Bates, Jr., a partner in the firm's Pittsburgh office, has been named a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators. Selection by this elite group of approximately 200 members is by invitation only.
Established in 2002, the College of Commercial Arbitrators is a national organization of commercial arbitrators providing a meaningful contribution to the profession, the public and to the businesses and lawyers who depend on commercial arbitration as a primary means of dispute resolution. CCA promotes the highest standards of conduct, professionalism and ethical practice, develops "best practices," and provides peer training and professional development. The College offers an easy means to identify those individuals whose professional training and experience qualify them to undertake the most complex and difficult arbitration assignments. The selection of Bates as a Fellow is a testament, according to the College, to his "talent, professionalism, recognition, and many accomplishments in the field of commercial arbitration."
Bates focuses his practice on construction litigation and domestic and international arbitration matters. In addition to representing clients in various federal and state courts, he has represented clients in arbitrations under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, JAMS, the International Chamber of Commerce, the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution and in private arbitrations. Bates has served as a neutral on more than 125 occasions, including matters with amounts in controversy approaching $100 million.
Bates serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association, and also serves as Chairman of the National Construction Dispute Resolution Committee. Mr. Bates has been included among the Best Lawyers in America in the fields of Construction Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He also has been recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Philadelphia Magazine in the field of Construction Litigation.
Bates is a frequent writer and speaker on arbitration and dispute resolution issues. He earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law, his M.B.A. in finance from Owen Graduate School of Management and his bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Washington & Jefferson College.
