Duane Morris' Atlanta Office Adds Trial Partner William Barwick
ATLANTA, January 22, 2010—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that William Barwick has joined the firm in its Atlanta office as a partner in its Trial Practice Group. Barwick, a past president of the State Bar of Georgia and the Atlanta Bar Association, further strengthens Duane Morris' depth of experience in products liability and commercial litigation as well as appellate work. Barwick joins the firm from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP.
Barwick represents clients in the manufacturing and insurance industries in products liability, toxic tort and insurance coverage matters. He also represents banks and bank trust departments in fiduciary litigation. Barwick has tried 40 jury trials in state and federal courts as either first-chair or sole counsel. His asbestos products liability experience includes the representation as national trial counsel of a company in defense of more than 35,000 claims in 20 states, totaling billions of dollars, without any amounts paid in settlement or judgment.
Barwick has long been a recognized leader in the legal community in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. In addition to his role as past president of the State Bar of Georgia, he is a former member of its disciplinary board, its board of governors, and its judicial nominating commission. He is also a former state representative to the house of delegates of the American Bar Association and a member of its judicial nominating commission. Currently, he is president of the Bar Council of the Northern District of Georgia. Next month, Barwick will be honored with the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service for his civic work, in particular his involvement with a literacy program for at-risk middle school students.
Barwick earned his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1974 and his B.A. from Amherst College in 1971.
