When the U.S. pharmaceutical industry was threatened by the possibility of Congress allowing the importation of prescription drugs from foreign countries, Pfizer, despite its vast resources and abilities, felt it failed to clearly articulate to Capitol Hill the proper issues regarding safety and trade. Pfizer turned to Duane Morris to both mobilize support for its position and, more importantly, provide the requisite leadership. Duane Morris was instrumental in Pfizer's delivery of information to lawmakers regarding the potential risk of terrorism and other global market issues raised by importation of prescription drugs.

We represented Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc., a biotech product development and manufacturing company, in connection with a license agreement with Yale University under which our client received an exclusive license to certain patents, molecules and other intellectual property for use in the development and commercialization of diagnostic products for cancer. We also represented Fujirebio in connection with a product development and supply agreement with Abbott Laboratories under which our client manufactures certain products on behalf of Abbott Laboratories.

Duane Morris represents Aventis Behring, and has provided a number of services for the major life sciences company. We performed detailed contract reviews concerning major pharmaceutical distribution agreements, healthcare law compliance issues, and provided guidance on contract negotiations. Additionally, we advised Aventis on various HIPAA compliance issues and real estate lease matters.
We represented Targeted Diagnostics & Therapeutics, Inc., in connection with its funded research agreement and license agreement with Thomas Jefferson University. We also represented Targeted in connection with its agreements with Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. under which Millennium made an equity investment in Targeted, and Targeted granted an exclusive license to Millennium under certain patents and other intellectual property for uses in oncology therapeutics.

Duane Morris assisted Nucleonics, an emerging biotechnology company focused on the development of novel RNA interference-based therapeutics for viral and other diseases, in completing its $40 million second round financing. Duane Morris provided the legal services and advice needed to negotiate and close the funding round.
