Session 2: First Steps Toward Compliance and Energy Efficiency

About the Program

Local Law 97 is part of New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act, which sets carbon emission caps for energy use in most buildings larger than 25,000 square feet starting in 2024―affecting approximately 50,000 buildings in the city. With the deadline fast approaching, some property owners already have plans in place, while others are still getting up to speed. Join us for a discussion of the initial and least cumbersome steps every covered building owner and tenant should be taking now to achieve compliance by 2024, as well as the available resources to help building owners who are looking for answers.

Session 1: Energy Conservation Requirements That Open Opportunities

About the Program

New York City’s Local Law 97 is the trailblazing climate legislation enacted in 2019 that sets carbon emission caps for energy use in most buildings larger than 25,000 square feet starting in 2024―affecting approximately 50,000 buildings in the city. Though the law’s obligations appear daunting at first glance, enterprising building owners, tenants and other stakeholders should see this as an invitation for innovation and an opening for financial gain. Join us for a discussion of the new requirements and opportunities the law presents, the benefits it could carry for the planet and how it will help establish New York City as a leader in the global sustainability movement and the battle against climate change.

About The Victoria

The Victoria is a 22-story cooperative located at 7 East 14th Street. The building refinanced their mortgage and set aside a substantial sum of money to pay for energy upgrades. It has just gone through the process of entering the NYSERDA FlexTech program, which will share the cost of a study for an engineer to analyze the building and recommend options for energy upgrades. As the building’s application was submitted before the June 30, 2021, deadline, The Victoria will have 100 percent of the study’s cost covered by NYSERDA.
