Lauren M. Case is a trial lawyer representing clients in the gaming, insurance, banking and finance, and manufacturing industries in complex commercial litigation and consumer actions throughout the United States. As a member of the firm’s Gaming Industry Group, Lauren has extensive experience representing gaming and digital entertainment clients in consumer and class action lawsuits asserting rights to recover revenues and injunctive relief under gambling loss recovery acts, unfair competition laws, and consumer remedies acts. She has experience advising clients regarding state gambling law. She is also a member of the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Industry Group, and represents insurance industry clients in insurance coverage litigation. She works on complex matters involving multiple parties, frequently related to environmental cleanups.

Lauren is licensed in California and Washington state. 

Lauren served as the programming chair for the Women’s Impact Network for Success (WINS) in the San Francisco office from 2020-2024.  Lauren regularly supports pro bono clients, most recently involving expungement of criminal records, and asylum for refugees from Afghanistan.  She is a 2011 graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law, and 2006 graduate of Duke University.  Go Blue Devils!

Representative Matters

  • Defending international gaming companies against mass actions alleging unlawful gambling pursuant to gambling loss recovery acts in Alabama and Tennessee.

  • Defend global gaming company IGT in one of a series of putative class actions filed against various leading “social casinos” asserting the right to recover amounts spent by players on virtual coins under the Washington State gambling loss recovery act. Benson v. Double Down Interactive, LLC, District Court for the Western District of Washington, Case No. 2:18-cv-00525.

  • Defeated putative class action to recover alleged gambling losses filed against freemium + sweepstakes operator Fliff in United States District Court for Central District of California. Obtained decision that Fliff Terms of Use were enforceable and that the named plaintiff’s case was subject to individual arbitration. Class action case dismissed. Bishoy Nessim v. Fliff, Inc., Case 5:23-cv-01048-SSS-SHK (USDC, CD Cal.)

  • Represented insurers in multi-party litigation in Washington state related to cleanup of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund Site. E.g., King County. v. Travelers Indem. Co., District Court for the Western District of Washington, Case No. 2:14-CV-01957 BJR.

  • Represented international insurer in multi-party litigation in Washington state related to coverage for cleanup of creosote-treated piling removal project at Port Gamble, Washington.
