Mark L. Patterson values the relationships with his clients and brings over 30 years of experience to bear in the areas of real estate and real estate finance law. Mr. Patterson’s clients include active investors and regional developers in private equity multimillion-dollar commercial real estate development projects of select asset classes, including multifamily apartment developments. Mr. Patterson applies his experience and skills in the structuring and formation of entities and complex debt and equity financings for all types – including funds structures with senior and mezzanine indebtedness and preferred equity. Mr. Patterson also has experience in reviewing and negotiating CCRs, PIDs, TIFs and other development and incentive agreements. Mr. Patterson also represents financial institution clients regarding permanent mortgage lending, mezzanine finance, pari passu, and subordinate debt, intercreditor, co-lending and participation arrangements, as well CMBS special servicers in negotiating loan workouts, extensions, foreclosures, restructurings, assumptions and non-transfer consents. Mr. Patterson is known for his extensive preparation and bullet-proofing of non-judicial foreclosure sales of real property all over Texas – including far west and south Texas – both contested and uncontested. He regularly provides real estate (including real estate finance) support to the restructuring group in complex bankruptcy cases, as well as legal opinion support for Texas real estate secured lending transactions.
Mr. Patterson is a 1994 cum laude graduate of South Texas College of Law Houston, where he was articles editor of the South Texas Law Review. He also received an M.B.A. in Finance, with honors, from the University of Houston and a B.B.A. in Accounting, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin.
