Roshan Singh Chopra is an Associate Director in Selvam LLC’s dispute resolution practice

Roshan's expertise is in complex commercial litigation. In particular, Roshan has significant experience in disputes relating to companies, shareholders rights, contractual disputes and defamation. Roshan also regularly acts in criminal matters and in corporate investigations.

Representative Matters

  • Acted for the representatives of the Samsuddin Estate before the General Division of the High Court, and also before the Appellate Division of the High Court. The Samsuddin Estate is a minority shareholder of Mohammad Mustafa & Samsuddin Co Pte Ltd that operates the iconic Mustafa Centre in a claim for, amongst other things, minority oppression.

  • Acted for a listed company in the business of owning oilrigs and vessels and against the Singapore branch of Swiss bank for defamation

  • Acted in a matter that sets out and clarifies the legal position in an application to reinstate a claim that has been automatically discontinued.

  • Acted for the accused in one of the first reported decisions for sentencing for first time drunk drivers under the amended provisions of the Road Traffic Act coming into effect in 2019. The decision set out the framework for sentencing under these provisions.

  • Acted for the defendants against a claim for an injunction to restrain the transfer of very valuable properties. The matter considered the novel issue of whether it is necessary for an applicant, who claims to be the victim of minority oppression in a company, to possess proprietary interest over properties for which transfers she seeks an injunction to restrain.

  • Acted for the claimants in one of the first reported decisions relating to an application to convert an originating application to an originating claim under the Rules of Court 2021. The matter concerned whether issues of contractual interpretation required a trial.

  • Acted for a defendant in relation to a claim under a conversation loan agreement for shares in the Plaintiff.

  • Acted for the litigation representative of a wealthy widow who lacked mental capacity. The widow was the victim of a fraud by a tour guide from China. Acted in relation to the application by the litigation representative for the widow to obtain court sanction for a statutory will under the Mental Capacity Act.

  • Acted for a plaintiff offshore construction company against a Delaware incorporated construction company for monies due in relation to the construction of three liquefied natural gas plants on Curtis Island, Queensland, Australia.

  • Acted for a plaintiff Singapore company in the business of infrastructure management against a major insurance company in Timor Leste. The claim was under a marine cargo insurance policy following the loss of cargo en route from Singapore to Timor Leste due to piracy.

  • Acted for the Law Society of Singapore and acted for the defence in disciplinary proceedings before disciplinary tribunals under the Legal Profession Act 1966 and before the Court of 3 Judges.

  • Acted for an accused in relation to a charge under s 467 of the Penal Code for forging a discharge voucher in relation to an insurance claim and the appeals arising therefrom.

  • Acted in applications for leave to commence statutory derivate actions.

  • Acted in a dispute relating to whether certain metal stamping machines were of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose under the Sale of Good Act 1979.
