The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year proposed wide-ranging new rules regarding climate disclosure that impact boards and senior management. They would require verification of various disclosures and measurement and verification of Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions for various reporting companies. With ramped-up enforcement potentially looming around the corner comes a greater urgency for review of existing protocols, programs and compliance, especially in avoiding misleading claims.
