News broke Tuesday that international law firm Duane Morris would be opening its first office in Dallas, taking a 10,000-square-foot sublease at The Crescent in Uptown.
Partners Robert Castle III, Randy Gordon, Jamie Welton and Luke Wohlford from Barnes & Thornburg LLP will be leading the new office, which will focus on industries like technology and energy and practice areas like intellectual property, corporate, real estate, and bankruptcy. This is the firm's third office in Texas, having opened a Houston office in 1999 and an Austin office in 2017.
"Frankly, the fact that we weren’t in Dallas was a real hole in our geographic footprint," said Matt Taylor, chairman and CEO of Duane Morris. "We’ve been successful in Texas. With the clients we serve in key industries like finance, private equity and tech, everything pointed to Dallas."
Even before the firm decided to open an office in Dallas, Taylor says he was well aware of the city's great legal talent.
"It's a great town. I've spent a lot of time there as a practitioner and it’s notable to me and other legal professionals because of the talent. The legal talent in Dallas is extraordinary. There are exceptionally talented lawyers there," Taylor said.
After several trips to Dallas in 2020, Taylor identified the team that will now be leading the firm's newest office.
"They’re great people, they're a lot of fun, and their energy is palpable. Their focus is all about teamwork and they love their practice," Taylor said. [...]
