Firm Is Among Industry Leaders in Providing Benefits for Parents of New Children

PHILADELPHIA, January 8, 2019—Duane Morris LLP announced that it is adding a Parental Leave Ramp Down/Ramp Up Policy to its parental leave programs to help attorneys both before and after the birth or adoption of a child.

Under the new policy, during the ramp down period an eligible U.S. attorney may have her or his billable hours expectation reduced for up to four weeks immediately prior to the attorney’s leave related to the birth or adoption of a child. Similarly, after returning to work following a leave of absence of at least 12 consecutive weeks in connection with the birth or adoption of a child, an eligible attorney may have up to three months to work a reduced schedule to gradually ramp back up to his or her regular billable hours expectation. During both the ramp down and ramp up periods, the eligible attorney’s regular base salary will not be reduced. In addition to the new policy, eligible attorneys may also request to work on a part-time basis under the firm’s part-time or flex-time policy before or after any applicable leave and ramp down/ramp up period.

“We anticipate that this new benefit, coupled with our parental caregiver leave benefits, will further assist our lawyers in the transition before and after the birth or adoption of a child,” said Matthew A. Taylor, Duane Morris Chairman and CEO. “In this regard, we believe our firm is a leader among our peers with this type of benefit.”

This is the latest enhancement to the firm’s benefits for new parents. Last year, Duane Morris introduced its partnership with Mindful Return to offer e-courses for new and expectant mothers and fathers designed to ease anxieties about planning for leave and the return-to-work process. Also last year, the firm began to provide Milk Stork―the first and only breast milk delivery service for business-traveling mothers that provides refrigerated, express shipping or easy toting of breast milk home for babies―to eligible mothers.
