Jane DaltonPHILADELPHIA, April 27, 2012—Duane Morris is pleased to announce that Jane Leslie Dalton, of counsel in the Philadelphia office, will be presented with the Philadelphia Bar Association's Sandra Day O'Connor Award at its quarterly meeting and luncheon on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

The Sandra Day O'Connor Award was named in honor of the first woman Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and is given annually to an outstanding woman attorney in the Philadelphia area. Dalton, who joined Duane Morris in 1971 and went on to become its first woman partner, was part of a team that started Duane Morris' successful Women's Initiative Program. The Sandra Day O'Connor Award is testament to Dalton's commitment to mentor, promote and advance other women lawyers.

Dalton is a former Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association as well as a former chair of the Association's Board of Governors and a former co-chair of its Committee on Women in the Profession. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Additionally, she is a member of the Section of Litigation and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

Last year, the Philadelphia Bar Association presented Dalton with the distinguished Dennis Replansky Memorial Award. Dalton was then recognized as having superior legal talent and professionalism, for unique contributions to and significant achievements in both the Philadelphia business law community and civic causes, and for mentoring young attorneys.

Dalton has defended law firms, educational institutions and businesses in individual and class actions in federal and state courts, defending various employment matters, including claims of discrimination, harassment and retaliation based on age, race, sex, disability, religion and national origin. Often, these claims are coupled with claims such as breach of restrictive covenant, disclosure of trade secret confidential information, wrongful discharge, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, intentional infliction of emotional harm and defamation. She has experience in defending highly controversial and highly publicized cases.
