  • Copyright and trademark infringement
  • Cyber-squatting, phishing, and other deceptive practices involving domain names and websites

Privacy and Information Security

Ariel counsels clients in navigating the landscape of privacy and information security (internally and when transacting with third parties), including compliance with federal privacy laws in highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, and education, as well as state-specific data privacy laws, advising on:

  • Data use, collection, storage, transfer, and retention
  • Privacy disclosures and data subject requests
  • Legal and regulatory obligations
  • Security standards, systems integrity, and IT infrastructure

Artificial Intelligence

In the emerging area of artificial intelligence (AI), Ariel has extensive knowledge on the use of data in machine learning, including considerations related to sources of training data, usage permissions and conditions, and compliance with privacy laws. She advises on the use of AI in business operations and in commercial transactions, and has conducted audits of AI usage in connection with diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Duane Morris, Ariel was legal counsel to an AI-powered B2B marketing technology company, where she negotiated and drafted SaaS agreements, data processing agreements, and business associate agreements. Ariel also has prior experience at a boutique law firm focusing on matters related to digital assets and blockchain-based technology applications.

Ariel is a magna cum laude graduate of Cornell University and a graduate of Fordham University School of Law, where she was associate editor of the Fordham Journal of Corporate and Financial Law. She spent her second year of law school as an intern at the enforcement division of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and her third year as an intern in the Asset Management Group at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
