Brad Y. Chin is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. He represents clients in intellectual property litigation and counseling matters, with a focus on patent and trademark-related disputes and transactions for companies operating in the energy, technology and high-tech sectors.

Brad advises clients on the development, protection and enforcement of intellectual property portfolios, including patent and trademark prosecution strategies, licensing and technology transfer arrangements, and due diligence in connection with corporate transactions. His practice also encompasses infringement and invalidity analyses, freedom-to-operate opinions and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes reviews, post-grant reviews and covered business method proceedings. He has experience advising on IP-related compliance issues arising under DFARS and FARs in the government contracting context.

Brad prosecutes patent applications in the chemical, electrical and mechanical arts for U.S. and international clients, including those based in China, Japan, Korea and the Middle East. His technical experience spans a wide range of technologies, including oil and gas drilling equipment, chemical processing systems, telecommunications, automotive technologies, robotics, consumer electronics, OLED and plasma display technologies, semiconductors, energy storage, renewable energy and clean technology, catalytic filtration systems, coatings, food products, medical devices, nanotechnology, electronic healthcare systems and treatments, and life sciences. He also represents clients in intellectual property litigation matters before state and federal courts.

Before entering private practice, Brad served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and as intellectual property manager and counsel at Raytheon Company. Earlier in his career, he worked as a technology licensing manager in the Technology Licensing Office at Texas A&M University and as a multidisciplined process engineer at Raytheon Company, where he was involved in the design and manufacture of missile systems. Brad is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt specialist and has completed graduate-level coursework in electrical engineering at The Johns Hopkins University.
