PHILADELPHIA, July 19, 2022—Duane Morris LLP partner John A. Nixon has been elected by the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys (NAPPA) executive board to serve as president for 2022-2023. He previously served as vice president of the organization and chair of its tax section. NAPPA is a professional legal and educational organization created in 1987 for attorneys who represent public pension funds. Its purpose is to provide educational opportunities and informational resources for its member attorneys.

Nixon is a member of Duane Morris’ governing Partners Board. He practices in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation. Nixon represents plan sponsors, executives and product providers in a range of issues, including: federal tax requirements for governmental and private sector pension, retirement and equity plans; executive employment and separation negotiations; trustee fiduciary duties under ERISA and state laws (for governmental plans); and 409A and 457(f) compliance for nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements. He also represents plan sponsors before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor in determination letter applications, plan audits and corrective procedures under IRS and Department of Labor remedial programs.

Nixon is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 1988) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (B.S., 1985).
