NEW YORK, September 15, 2025―Judge Robert Grossman has rejoined Duane Morris LLP as of counsel in the firm’s Business Reorganization and Financial Restructuring Practice Group in its New York City office. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Grossman was a partner at Duane Morris.
"Judge Grossman has a stellar reputation in the bankruptcy realm as a jurist, educator and mentor, and we’re pleased to welcome him back to Duane Morris. His comprehensive experience will be very relevant to many of our institutional clients, expanding our capabilities within our New York office and enhancing our dynamic business reorganization and financial restructuring practice,” said Duane Morris Chairman and CEO Matthew A. Overseeing more than 150 decisions, Grossman regularly clarified bankruptcy code for major financial institutions, determining complex matters that impacted thousands of account holders and companies across myriad industries. He also resolved issues of broad consumer interest, many of which involved well-known institutions as well as matters involving infamous individuals. Grossman was appointed as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Eastern District of New York in April 2008 and was reappointed in April 2022. He also served as a visiting judge in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Grossman served as an officer of the board of governors of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, an association of the bankruptcy judges of the United States that provides continuing legal education to judges, lawyers and other involved professionals and promotes cooperation among the bankruptcy judges to secure a greater degree of quality and uniformity in the administration of the bankruptcy system. He was also appointed to two terms by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to serve on the committee at the Judicial Conference of the United States that oversees the bankruptcy courts nationally.
Prior to his appointment, Grossman practiced in the area of corporate law, business reorganization and litigation at Duane Morris. A significant part of his practice focused on providing advice to troubled or newly restructured companies and investors with respect to the financing needs of such companies. Grossman has extensive experience in complex bankruptcy and creditor rights litigation for both individuals and institutions and has represented parties in the restructuring and transfer of assets in bankruptcy court. Experienced in the intricacies of bankruptcy and restructuring matters across a wide range of industries, including real estate and healthcare, he represented borrowers, secured creditors, landlords and owners across the United States. Grossman is an adjunct professor at Touro Law School.
I believe a comprehensive understanding of restructuring laws will in many cases offer clients solutions to problems they otherwise may not have thought about,” said Grossman. “I look forward to providing the excellent lawyers at Duane Morris with a fresh prospective to devise sensible strategies to achieve our clients’ goals.”
