PHILADELPHIA, August 23, 2022—Five Duane Morris LLP attorneys have been named by Best Lawyers as “Lawyers of the Year” for 2023.

Each was the only lawyer selected for this honor from his respective practice area and city. Lawyers are selected based on high marks in the peer-review assessments conducted annually by Best Lawyers.

Denis F. Shanagher has handled jury and court trials, mediations and arbitrations for more than 40 years, focusing on real estate development, construction and land use. He represents a diverse group of clients in all aspects of the real estate development and construction process, principally major national developers and general contracting firms. Shanagher’s practice includes disputes regarding complex construction defects, design, delay, easements, title, and various aspects of the approval process (CEQA, entitlement, subdivision map act and administrative hearings). He has recently litigated a number of construction defect disputes involving several of the largest condominium and office tower projects in Northern California. In addition, Shanagher handles matters involving broker liability; insurance coverage (advice and litigation for both policyholders and insurers); and general commercial and real estate contracts and disputes. He also has provided counsel in the areas of professional negligence, emphasizing real estate agents, attorneys, accountants and insurance brokers.

Frank A. DiGiacomo is team lead of the firm’s Gaming Industry Group. He practices in the areas of gaming, sports betting, igaming, lottery, fantasy sports, entertainment and regulatory law, representing many public and private companies within the gaming/sports betting industry and others that conduct business with the industry. DiGiacomo has significant experience representing public and privately held casino operators, sports wagering operators, gaming/sports wagering technology providers engaged in interactive, skills-based gaming, social gaming, financial services companies and lottery companies in connection with licensing, transactional matters, regulatory investigations, compliance matters, financing approvals, equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, technology approvals and other gaming regulatory issues. He has handled gaming, sports-wagering, lottery and related regulatory licensing matters in numerous domestic and international jurisdictions including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, Delaware, Connecticut, West Virginia, Maine, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Canada and Europe. DiGiacomo has advised U.S.-based gaming clients in dealings with Native American gaming regulatory agencies and on ventures in Asia (including Macau), South America, Eastern Europe and Africa. He has also advised on internet promotions, social gaming, internet-based marketing and promotional sweepstakes matters, procurement matters and government privatization issues in addition to handling various types of litigation.

Gilbert A. Greene is managing partner of the firm’s Austin office. His practice is focused on the enforcement and procurement of intellectual property rights, with a primary emphasis on patent litigation. Greene’s patent litigation clients have included large and small technology companies, energy and chemical companies and retailers in cases involving a diverse array of technologies. He also has experience with handling patent validity trials (IPRs/CBMs) before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Greene also has experience with patent prosecution, opinion work and portfolio management, primarily in the chemical engineering, chemistry and mechanical fields. He has experience with handling all phases of patent litigation, including written discovery and document production, fact and expert witness depositions, Markman briefings and hearings, dispositive motion briefing and hearings, trials, appeals and mediation/settlement. Greene has represented both patent holders and accused infringers in numerous federal jurisdictions across the country, including the Western District of Texas, the Eastern District of Texas, the District of Delaware, the Eastern District of Virginia, the Western District of Wisconsin, the Southern District of California and the Central District of California. In addition to patent litigation, he also has experience with handling all phases of copyright, trademark and trade secret litigation.

Kenneth M. Argentieri, a trial attorney for more than 30 years, has represented individual and corporate clients in complex litigation, including products liability, defamation, toxic tort, environmental, securities, class action, trade secret and commercial law. He has handled significant appeals in Federal Circuit courts and the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme Courts. Argentieri has served as national coordinating counsel and as regional counsel for clients in toxic tort matters. He has also served as a mediator to help resolve contract and securities disputes.

Lawrence J. Kotler is co-chair of the Bankruptcy and Fiduciary Representations division of Duane Morris’ Business Reorganization and Financial Restructuring Practice Group. He practices in the area of bankruptcy reorganization and finance, representing Chapter 11 debtors-in-possession, Chapter 11 trustees, Chapter 7 trustees, liquidating trustees, creditors' committees, secured creditors and large institutional unsecured creditors in all facets of bankruptcy. A fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and co-chair of the College’s Educational Committee for the Third Circuit, Kotler is also certified as a business bankruptcy specialist by the American Board of Certification.  He is a frequent speaker and author on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights issues and a member of the American Bankruptcy Law Institute, a member and past chairman of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference and a member of the Delaware Bankruptcy American Inn of Courts.
