2011 Here We Come!

By Eric J. Sinrod
January 4, 2011
Findlaw.com

Eric SinrodRight before the start of the last decade, the chief tech concern was Y2K and the worry that computers worldwide would crash as we rolled into the year 2000.

Well, what a difference a decade makes! Not only did Y2K not materialize as the huge problem that had been feared, the Internet has grown up in a major way and some of the issues we are dealing with now were not even on the radar screen in the days of Y2K paranoia.

In 2010 alone together we covered a number of interesting topics concerning new technology and legal Internet developments that are helpful with any 2011 technology predictions you may have.

These topics included moving data into the “cloud,” issues arising out of the use of social media, and various permutations of data security and online privacy. We also considered military defense and offense as relating to potential Cyber wars, computer crimes, and Internet stalking.

We explored the full gamut of Internet intellectual property issues arising out of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret claims, and we dealt with high-tech employment, E-Discovery, corporate data, and software matters.

And the foregoing is just a small sampling of what we addressed in this blog in 2010 and prior years since the Y2K non-crisis.

So, what do we have in store for 2011 and beyond?

Please feel free to email your 2011 technology predictions to me, and if the responses are interesting, I will cover that in a subsequent blog.

Please send your predictions to me at and put "2011 Tech Predictions" in the Subject line.

Happy New Year!
