Duane Morris partner Jonathan Armstrong of the firm's London office comments on new UK rules regarding tracking of visitors to businesses' websites. The rules, issued by the UK Information Commissioner's Office, went into effect May 26 and require companies to seek user permission before collecting information on their behavior through cookies. Armstrong notes the need for chief information officers to lead their company's online privacy compliance efforts, and describes several of the numerous concerns facing CIOs in evaluating their company’s use of such tracking tools.
